Air Tanzania launches a new route between the Seychelles and Africa
The Seychelles International Airport welcomed the first Air Tanzania flight direct to the archipelago at 6:35 a.m. on Sunday, 3 May. The aircraft, an Airbus A220, was welcomed upon arrival with the traditional water cannon salute. Several Seychelles personalities attended the event, including the Minister of Transport, Ports and Civil Aviation, Veronique Laporte, and the Minister of Tourism and Culture, Amanda Bernstein. Among the passengers were also senior officials, the Minister of Transport and members of the government and Parliament.
The new route between Dar es Salaam and the Seychelles aims to improve regional connectivity and strengthen economic, tourism and cultural exchanges between the two countries. Authorities highlighted that this service will help facilitate travel across East Africa and the Indian Ocean, while also offering new connection opportunities.
An official ceremony, complete with ribbon cutting, marked the arrival of the inaugural flight. Bilateral talks focused on optimizing air connections between the two destinations. Air Tanzania will operate three flights per week, on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays, arriving in the Seychelles at 6:15 a.m. and departing for Dar es Salaam at 7:15 a.m. (local time). Passengers on the inaugural flight were welcomed with local souvenirs and cultural performances, showcasing the hospitality of the Seychelles.
Since the beginning of the conflict in the Middle East, the Seychelles have been seeking new routes to diversify the country’s air connections and explore commercial opportunities. Three African airlines currently serve the Seychelles: Kenya Airways, Ethiopian Airlines and Air Tanzania.
