Everyone can contribute to the success of this project by sending their photos and videos of cetaceans sighted in the Seychelles from January 2026 onwards to the email address mcsscetaceans@gmail.com or via WhatsApp at +248 2670043. In addition to the photo, it is necessary to indicate the date, time and GPS coordinates of the sighting in order to include useful data for the research.

The project, supported by the Seychelles Conservation and Climate Adaptation Trust through the Blue Grants Fund-9, aims to strengthen baseline information on cetaceans by documenting which species are present locally, where they are most frequently observed and whether the populations are resident or migratory. This information is essential to guide future conservation planning and management efforts.

The Marine Conservation Society Seychelles, which includes the Shark Research Institute Seychelles, is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to the protection, restoration and sustainable management of the marine and coastal ecosystems of the Seychelles. Founded in 1997, it brings together scientists, conservation operators, local partners and government agencies to improve the conservation of marine and coastal ecosystems through management, scientific research, training and educational programmes.

For thirty years, the organization has been at the forefront of marine conservation in the Western Indian Ocean, promoting long-term monitoring programmes, habitat restoration initiatives and community-based management models. Its work ranges from coral reef restoration to sea turtle conservation, from the management of marine protected areas to environmental education. Through science-based actions and strong partnerships, it aims to ensure that the unique biodiversity of the Seychelles thrives for future generations.
